Matt & Ashley
When Ashley said her and her fiancé Matt were getting married at a Barn in Red River Gorge, and that the area was important to the couple, I suggested we could do their engagement photos there as well. I had shot an engagement session in the Gorge once before, so I was familiar with some areas, but relied on Matt, who grew up in the area, to show me the way to some secret spots. He didn’t disappoint!
Miguel’s is an iconic landmark of Red River Gorge so we originally planned to take some photos there. Unfortunately, it was packed when we got there, so we grabbed just a few quick snaps before moving on.
The couple was actually more excited to take photos at their favorite restaurant, Red River Smokehouse. Apparently the couple eat there at least once a week!
Matt took me to this amazing spot, which is a tunnel in the middle of the mountain. I was amazed and couldn’t stop starring in awe at the beautiful scenery.
The couple were a lot of fun to photograph. And Matt had both me and Ashley cracking up.
Ashley changed in to a beautiful blue dress for some dressy photos and we went to the Gladie Educational Center, where we found these yellow perennials.
The couple were up for an adventure and got in the creek! The water was a little cold, but we had fun creating some unique photos.
I had a lot of fun photographing you guys, Matt & Ashley and I am so excited to photograph your wedding in the Gorge!
Matt & Ashley
October 12th, 2019
Matt and Ashley met when they both worked for the local police department, Ashley as a dispatcher and Matt as a police officer. They dated for 8 months before Matt proposed at The Castle Post in Versailles.
Matthew booked the couple a dinner at The Castle Post. The couple left work together and headed towards the castle, Ashley anxious the whole way. They were seated in a small semi private dining room and Ashley was worried about what to order at such a fancy place! Matt ordered ox tail and made Ashley try it, but she played it safe with a cheeseburger for herself.
After dinner the couple walked up to the roof for sunset and Ashley was in such awe from the view she failed to notice a flower bouquet and Matt’s best friend Jon with his video camera. Matthew walked Ashley towards the flowers, dropped to one knee and with tears said, “Will You Marry Me?” Ashley’s Response? “Are you Serious? Are you Serious?” Then, “YES!”
Taylor & Emily
September 28th, 2019
Taylor and Emily met through a mutual friend, that forced the quiet Taylor to talk to Emily. They hit it off and became a couple!
After dating for 5 years, Emily knew Taylor was going to propose on Thanksgiving day. She just didn't know at what family dinner he was going to pop the question at! The suspense almost killed her the whole day. The couple were done eating at his family’s dinner and Taylor told Emily to turn around and look at something at the front of the room. Emily turned around to him shaking with a ring in her face and his cracking voice saying, “Will you marry me?” The crying and pictures began soon after that!
The couple got married at Maplewood Estate on a warm but beautiful day. The whole day was a lot of fun but I think my favorite moments were during the ceremony when the couple stood in front of the house and the beautiful sunlight hit Emily’s veil and dress just right. She looked gorgeous in the shining light!
Larry & Kelly
September 21st, 2019
Larry was a bartender at the Longhorn Steakhouse in Lexington when Kelly also worked there as a hostess. Larry started hitting on Kelly while she was bussing a table, and even though Kelly was recently out of a relationship, it must have worked because the couple have been together ever since.
During a Family trip to Disney World, Larry decided he was going to propose to Kelly. He had planned to ask the big question during a fireworks boat cruise on the lake outside of the Magic Kingdom. Kelly’s whole family was with the couple and during the fireworks finale, Larry got down on one knee and asked Kelly to marry him.
The couple got married at Talon Winery on a warm but beautiful day. The whole day was a lot of fun but I think my favorite moments were during the sunset photos, when the couple were Abel to be alone for a minute and laugh together as husband and wife.
Codie & Darah
September 14th, 2019
I knew when I met Darah that her wedding would be awesome! During the consultation over Starbucks coffee, she was super relaxed and excited to marry her best friend. Codie and Darah had been together 7 years before they got engaged, so they definitely knew they are for each other!
I had never photographed a wedding at the couple’s venue, Forest Retreat, but I was in love with the venue as soon as I saw it. It fit the bride’s vision for her wedding day perfectly and everything seemed perfect. The venue even had horses! The couple has a live band at their reception and danced to the Adam Sandler song “Grow Old With You.” a favorite of mine.
Christopher & Ashley
August 10th, 2019
Christopher & Ashley met through mutual friends in 2014 and became best friends before Christopher eventually confessed his feelings to Ashley, and she shared she felt the same about him. They dated for four years before they got engaged at The Burl in Lexington, Ky.
Bryan & Kellie
This couple might look familiar as just last month I photographed and blogged their one year anniversary session, so I thought it would be fun to blog their wedding for Throwback Thursday and revisit their bright and romantic Kentucky wedding.
Nick & Kylie
November 24th, 2018
For as long as I am alive and shooting weddings, I will never forget the process of shooting Nick & Kylie’s wedding. Kylie hired me over a year before her wedding, and because she was on the west coast, we didn’t get to meet, but had a phone chat. I then learned that her fiancé Nick had joined the military and because of basic training, they had to move their May wedding date a couple weeks later- to a date I was unavailable! They choose to stay with Bourbon & Brides and allow me to contract out a second shooter for their wedding.
Andy & Allyssa
July 13th, 2019
Andy & Allyssa met on an online dating website. For their first date, the couple met at a local bar and talked for seven hours! Allyssa had planned to check in with a friend during the date, so her friend would know she was safe, but Allyssa was so engrossed in the conversation, she forgot to check in, and scared her friend half to death.
Michael & Emily’s wedding was in my first full year as a full time wedding photographer, and one of the first (and only) times I’ve photographed a wedding sick. I woke up Sunday morning at 5am to travel to Louisville for the early wedding. I had to be in the hotel to begin shooting at 7am. Well, I woke up with a migraine! I took some medicine before I left the house, but I still had a headache and then a stomachache by the time I got to the hotel. Even though my head was hurting and my stomach was queasy, I made a point to give 110% while shooting, and luckily I felt better by the 11am ceremony.
Although it was sticky hot outside, I had a lot of fun photographing Aaron & Brooke’s wedding in Lexington. From the moment the day started, Brooke was laughing, smiling and taking in every moment of her special day. There was no way I could not pick up on her great attitude, and enjoy myself even more.
