The Signature Club
The Signature Club Grand Ballroom is an event space that is part of The Signature Club of Landsdowne, located off Tates Creek Rd in Lexington, Ky. I have photographed several weddings at The Signature Club, mostly in the winter as it is decorated wonderfully at that time. But what makes this venue so special is how great the light is in the ballroom, and the hidden gems through the space. From the getting ready bridal suite and it’s romantic mirror decor; to the intricate front door; and finally the reception ballroom with high ceilings and columns, The Signature Club is gorgeous and easy to photograph in. It is a wonderful choice for any bride!

Usually detail shots are not dependent on the location as much as what the details and the wedding theme are. One exception to this is the dress. Putting the dress in a location on the venue’s property helps tell the story and set the scene while showing off that beautiful gown you’ve purchased. At The Signature Club, the dress can be taken outside if you’re comfortable with that, but my favorite spot is against the large mirror in the dressing room.
The Signature Club’s bridal suite is beautiful. The colors and decor work perfectly for beautiful photos with a soft and romantic touch. And the sun shines through the window for great light. I love the mirrors they have around the small room for cool reflections. The downside to getting ready at The Signature Club is there isn’t a lot of space, so you won’t likely be able to have your bridesmaids in the room with you. But many brides opt to get ready somewhere else and photograph the finishing touches in the bridal suite.
Not a lot of people opt to have their ceremony at The Signature Club. It is a smaller space and flipping it between ceremony and reception isn’t easy. You can choose to have your ceremony outside on their back patio. Brides who want to have their ceremony outside on the beautiful patio have the option of moving inside if it rains, which is a bonus!
Because The Signature Club has a lot of cool design elements in their indoor space, portraits can be easily taken, no matter the time of day, season and weather. The Signature Club has some beautiful spots with fun backgrounds no matter the light but my favorite is shooting in front of the wooden & glass front door.
In case of rain, portraits and family formals can also be shot on the patio out back facing the reception doors. While you wouldn’t think they could be done with a lot going on behind you in the reception space, it is actually an easy thing to accomplish for a skilled photographer. It also is a great spot for group portraits, as there is a lot of space for large parties.
While The Signature Club has garden space in the back, there isn’t a lot of even shaded areas, so often the light isn’t flattering in that space until a couple hours before sunset. Be sure to think about what time of day you want to shoot portraits if you plan on using this space and pay attention to where the sun is at that time.
Some brides opt to shoot most of their portraits elsewhere for more variety or more greenery, but whatever you choose, you can get some amazing shots around The Signature Club.
Sunsets at The Signature Club are rare. Because of the surrounding neighborhood and the fact the venue sits down in a valley, the sun does not set in a way that lends itself to silhouettes. However, the venue does have a sweet lighted area that allows us to get some dramatic nights shots with twinkling lights.
I love shooting in The Signature Club, because the ballroom is well lit! You don’t have to do a lot of decorating to the space for it to look classic and formal. One downsize of the reception space is it is so well lit, it can be hard to get a dark and moody romantic feel if that’s what you desire. But if you want a fun and colorful wedding with some great uprights, this is the venue for you, as up-lights really pop against the light colored walls and ceiling! I like to play with the decor in the room, including the Christmas Tree during Christmas and the mirrors on the wall during reception shots.
The Signature Club is a great place to have a final exit, for example sparklers. With the lights coming off the building and the awning stretching the length of the sidewalk, you can get some magical photos of you leaving your wedding, even in the rain!
