What: International Mr. Leather Portraits
Where: Nicholasville, Kentucky
When: May 2019
James has accomplished quite a feet. Like a beauty pageant contestant winning Miss. Universe, James participates in Leather competitions and won International Mr. Leather in 2018 out of a total of 71 contestants. He will be stepping down from his title this month and wanted to take some portraits to commiserate his year as IML.
I met James when I started taking my daughter to the cheerleading and tumbling gym he coaches and choreographs for. My daughter was initially in group lessons, but once I realized how quickly she was picking up the skills and would benefit from private lessons, I reached out to James to coach her one on one. That was in January of 2018 and since then, we have become friends.
Given the opportunity to shoot James and do something a little different than the happy and bright photos I shoot on a wedding day or for an engagement portrait was a lot of fun. I also took advantage of the opportunity to shoot James with my artificial lights and use colored gels to create some cool looks. All in all I am very happy with how the photos turned out and I am happy I was able to play around with some creative portraits.
Here are a few of my favorite images from the day:
