David and Kara met when they were on the same dive team at the University of Alabama. For two years, they dived together and became close friends. All their mutual friends saw the chemistry the couple had together, but they only remained best friends. Finally, David worked up the courage to confess his feelings to Kara, and although she hadn’t realized it until then, she saw she had feelings for him too!
After dating for two and a half years, David planned to propose to Kara during the 4th of July fireworks show in downtown Lexington. But the fireworks show ended up being overwhelming, and David decided the idea of proposing under mediocre fireworks wasn’t appealing, so he scratched the idea and instead proposed on their back patio under the stars. Kara said yes, and agreed with David that proposing in the intimate setting of their home was much better than in front of a lot of strangers downtown.
David and Kara’s carefree Kentucky wedding was on a warm and sunny day in Lexington, and everyone was having a lot of fun the whole day. The girls got ready in Kara’s mother’s home located in Lexington and the boys had a room at the Hyatt next to Rupp Arena, downtown. Her makeup artist, Ashley Black and hairstylist, Tabitha Carter, make Kara look stunning and she looked even more radiant in her full ball gown style dress with a tulle skirt from Meant to Be Boutique and by designer Lillian West. To make her dress personalized, Kara added detachable sleeves to her gown that were from her grandmother’s wedding dress. Her bouquet was a loose arrangement of white roses, greenery and touches of blue flowers provided by Ted Brown with Kroger’s. Her bridesmaid’s wore blue bridesmaid gowns purchased from Azazie. David looked stylish in a gray suit accented with a blue bow tie, while his groomsmen had matching ties, from Men’s Warehouse.
The bride had a moment with her mom and dad were she gifted them monogramed handkerchiefs, and then a first look with David in the garden across from The Grand Reserve. After the first look, the couple’s portraits were taken in the garden against a beautiful ivy wall. Kara couldn’t stop laughing and smiling as she posed with her soon to be husband. Wedding party shots soon followed and everyone were in high spirits, despite it being a little on the warm side outside.
The ceremony was in The Grand Reserve in Lexington, where they had a traditional ceremony, including a roping tying ceremony . When Kara walked down the aisle, her bridesmaids couldn’t hold back tears. For the ceremony, Kara wore a long cathedral veil and her grandmothers blue rosary. Family photos were taken behind the venue before the couple were announced for their reception.
Their reception followed inside the venue. The tables were decorated with silver linens and white accents, with floral centerpieces and candles They also had a beautiful cake made by The Cake Lady, LLC for their guests to enjoy after an Italian pasta buffet meal provided by Bluegrass Catering. They provided local honey in cute little jars for their guests to take home. Guests signed a barrel head with the couple’s wedding date and name.
David and Kara had a lovely first dance to She's Got a Way by Billy Joel and after Kara had a fun choreographed dance with her father.
The couple were able to enjoy their reception with family and friends because of their DJ, Erin Green. And the dance floor was packed the whole evening! The couple ended their night with an exit to a classic car through a crowd of family and friends waving Alabama pom poms.
