David and Cassie hired me to photograph their garden party wedding in the fall of 2015. I actually met them at my very first bridal show with Bridal Bliss at the Hilton Lexington/ downtown and I was so thankful they hired me because I was relatively new to the wedding scene at that time. Okay, actually I was completely new! Cassie & David ended up being only the second wedding I photographed after starting Bourbon & Brides. (But not the second wedding I had shot. I had shot some before I launched the brand). I still think I did well right out of the gate and am still proud to share these images with everyone for Thursday Throwback.
David and Cassie’s low-key and classic wedding was on a rainy May day in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. The couple had used a friend’s estate to have their garden party themed wedding. Cassie looked sleek in her long fitted lace wedding dress. Her bridesmaids wore beautiful complimentary pastel short dress that fit very well with the spring theme. Their bouquets were filled with greenery and white flowers with ribbons to match the color of their dresses. David and his groomsmen looked classic in their suits accented with ties the colors of the corresponding bridesmaid’s dresses. David’s tie was white to match Cassie’s dress, of course!
The couple had a moment to talk together without seeing each other in a beautiful room in the house, where they were divided by a sliding door. It actually started raining right before the ceremony and it was supposed to be outside on the lawn, so the couple made the decision to postpone their wedding by 10 minutes for the rain to hold off. The couple were then married outside but under the covered porch with their guests sitting on the lawn. The bride was delivered to the aisle by a vintage green car and her dad escorted her down the aisle with a pink umbrella. A very unique part of the couple’s ceremony was the two junior bridesmaid’s performed an interpretive dance for the guests!
Dinner followed the ceremony under a tent on the front lawn and dancing in the circular driveway. The dinner tables were decorated with white linens and simple arrangements for that classic look but there were colorful fabric garland hanging around the tent for a dreamlike garden feel. They had a tasty wedding cake and assorted sweets for their guests to enjoy after dinner.
The couple had a really fun reception, with family members who were in a band playing music for the couple and guests. Cassie also switched things up after the ceremony by swiping her classic veil for a flower crown and wearing a beautiful shawl over her showers to stay warm. David and Cassie danced and celebrated with family and friends all evening and the couple ended the night with a sparkler exit in front of the estate to send them off. One of their guests thought it would be a fun idea to light a ton of sparklers at once so once the couple got down to that guest in the line and saw the huge display of sparklers in his hand, they were taken aback and I grabbed fun snap of their reaction.
Here are a few of my favorite images from the day:
